A good place to check for what information is available for different regiments if the FIBIS wiki. Link is under Research Ancestors in the above menu. Here is the page for your ancestors regiment https://wiki.fibis.org/w/8th_Regiment_of_Foot

There you find links to all the websites and books etc to help you find further information,

I don ‘t think the top two are places in India. Here is what I can make out:

    ?
    ?
    Ahmedabad
    ditto
    Quetta
    ?
    ?
    ?
    ?

If you check the history of the regiment you should be able to see where the regiment was posted on those dates.

    Hi Sue,

You didn ‘t do anything wrong. Findmypast have the Cadet Papers in with all the baptism records for some reason. We pointed this out to them several years ago and suggested the logical place for them is in with Military Records, but they aren ‘t interested in moving them. They said that people will find them by searching so they aren ‘t worried!

    Hi @jessmo,

Sorry to hear you are having problems uploading images. I just tried with a test image to the activity page and to this post and it’s worked fine for me. Please try again and if you have any problems email Nik at [email protected] quoting any error messages you may be receiving and he will investigate the problem for you.

The only bit I could read, that you couldn ‘t, was Hannah, but luckily enough that was enough to find the rest of the details using Findmypast and Familysearch to decipher in the rest. Good idea posting on here for help. 🙂

Another option is to send all the details you have to the FIBIS research coordinator, as FIBIS have volunteer researchers who visit the British Library regularly, and they can look for it for you. Email [email protected]

    Hi Peter,

I accessed the Times of India at the British Library via ProQuest, which is available at some libraries.

My Great Grandmother was a hockey player too. I’m not sure if she played at the All India Games though. I know she was in the cycling team as I have the photos and found the newspaper articles. Further investigation is needed!

Do you have access to ProQuest?

    Regards

I have been on a similar hunt regarding my Great Grandmother competing in the cycling. The year turned out to be 1942 and I did find references in the Times of India. See this blog post https://valmayyoung.wordpress.com/2016/08/14/muriel-wardley-cycling-in-the-1942-indian-olympic-games/

I can’t seem to reproduce your problem. All works fine for me. Try the following.

    1. Click the image icon in the What’s new box to open up the image upload options.
    2. If uploading an image from your PC Click upload a file
    3. Select the image you want to upload
    4. Add your commentary in the What’s new box
    5. Click Add photo.

Let me know how you get on.

The FIBIS database website was experiencing problems with the server that day, but it should be working okay now. If you experience any further problems feel free to email me at [email protected]

Have you checked the entries for Sewri Cemetery in the FIBIS database website?
