An Introduction to Wikitree

22 Jun | News,

On Saturday 29th July at 10:30 FIBIS member, Rob Wilson will be giving a Zoom talk about Wikitree to FIBIS members. If you haven’t heard about Wikitree, or are looking for somewhere to add your family tree in a FREE and collaborative way, you will find this talk interesting and informative. The joining details can be found in the FIBIS members’ area on the Monthly Zoom Sessions section.

Description

Rob will introduce you to Wikitree – a free and collaborative database for family historians. It is 100% free and non-commercial; it works in your web browser – no fussy apps!

The key concept is that there is only one profile page for any person on Earth – users collaborate to cite sources to “facts”. It connects easily to record searching such as Find My Past, and to DNA information.

We will walk through a typical profile (Rob’s paternal grandmother) and show how the various tools can be used. Then we will look at some online pages and take questions.

Not a FIBIS member and would like to attend this talk? Why not join FIBIS and not only attend this talk, but enjoy all the other benefits of membership? Membership starts from as little as £12 a year.
