Those of you that use the ‘Notes and Tags’ facility in the Explore the British Library Catalogue may be interested in the below announcement from the British Library.
We have added a new enrichment service to Explore the British Library; as a result we will be removing the current Notes & Tags facility
Syndetics Unbound, an enrichment service provided by ProQuest, is now available in Explore the British Library. This new service went live on in December 2018.
The new service provides extra information about items in the Library ‘s collection that contain an ISBN (e.g. books, audio recordings). The features include: excerpts, summaries, tags, recommendations and reviews, written by both professionals and readers. Where available, there are also links to other items by the same author in the Library ‘s collection.
Removal of Notes & Tags from Explore the British Library: 25 March 2019
As the new service includes a tags and review facility, we will retire the existing Notes & Tags feature within Explore the British Library. If you have tagged records in the catalogue, and do not want to lose that information, you will need to store it elsewhere.
You could save the records into My Workspace by creating a folder and labelling it with the same term as your tag. Or, you can add the records to one of the reference management sites available in the Details tab (e.g. Refworks, Endnote). You will need to have an account with the site of your choice to do this.
Notes are not indexed, so you can ‘t search for them, you need to know on which record you have entered this information. Once you have identified the catalogue record, you can: save it to My Workspace, or export it to one of the reference management sites.
Please transfer all your notes and tags by 25 March 2019. You will not have access to Notes & Tags after this date.
