Wikitree British India Challenge

Register Now: 2026 British India Challenge (Starting April 2026)

06 Apr | News,

We’re excited to announce the WikiTree British India Challenge, a year-long series of monthly challenges throughout 2026 focused on improving WikiTree profiles connected to British India (pre-1947).

This challenge is being run in partnership with the Families in British India Society (FIBIS) and will help expand and improve research on people who lived in British India during the East India Company and British Raj periods.

Each month will focus on a different activity, giving everyone a chance to participate in ways that match their interests and skills.

Monthly Themes

Throughout the year we will rotate through themes such as:

  • Connection Month – Add and connect new profiles
  • Sourcing Month – Add sources to unsourced profiles
  • Data Doctors Month – Fix suggestions and improve data quality

Our official launch week is April 13, 2026, with the first theme:

Born in India

Participants will help add and improve profiles of people born in India during the British India period.

Kickoff Events

To get things started Wikitree will also be hosting several community activities:

  • Featured Connection Checkers Game focusing on British India profiles
  • Question of the Week spotlighting British India research
  • Discord Research Party to kick things off together April 16, 2026

Whether you’re already researching ancestors in India or simply enjoy helping improve profiles, everyone is welcome!

Every contribution helps — whether you’re adding a new profile, improving a biography, adding sources, or fixing suggestions.
