Allen’s Indian Mail, Volume 4, 1846 Madras p339 Leave of Absence:
TULLOCH, Lieut. D. 2nd Eur. Lt. Inf. to pres. fr. March 15, prep. to apply for leave to Eur. on m.c.
Does anyone know what ‘m.c.’ stood for?

    Hello Hilary,
I hope you’ve found an answer to your question in the intervening years. If you haven’t, medical certificate is a possibility for the m. c. acronym.

Actually, no I haven’t. I did wonder if m.c. simply stood for ‘medical certificate’.

    Hi Hilary

Yes, if you look at the Explanations of Abbreviations at the beginning of Indian Army Lists, it says m.c. is medical certificate.

    Happy hunting!

    Cheers

Thank you Sean. I have a couple of Indian Army Lists but forgot about the List of Abbreviations.
