Burial record crossed out – Why?

I am hoping you may be able to shed some light on the death of my Great Great Grandfather, David Joseph NICHOLAS. (Born 20/04/1865         Died 17/09/1920)
Resided Asansol, India.

I have found a record for him (attached), but as you can see the data has been crossed out, suggesting it did not happen.   I  cannot find anything else relating to his death or burial.

The family story goes that he was murdered on a train, this would tie-in with his occupation, train controller.   If it was murder, is this the reason the burial was cancelled?

I have found his will – Probate granted to his wife Caroline on 8/2/1921

I would be grateful if you could point me in the right direction, ie: newspapers/inquest/police investigations.
