Image of Sylvia MurphyIt is with great sadness that we report the death of our dear friend Sylvia Murphy.

Sylvia was for many years a member of FIBIS and one of our stalwart Liaisons in Australia along with Mary-Anne Gourley. She regularly represented FIBIS at family history events in Australia and was also well known and respected for her knowledgeable contributions to the Rootsweb India List and to Who Do You Think You Are? Magazine.

She last visited the UK for the FIBIS Conference in 2014 where she gave a talk on the “ non-official” community in India, people who were not in the Civil Service or the Army, among whom her own ancestors were numbered.

Family historians from all over the world benefited from her expertise in the field of researching ancestors in British India and she will be much missed.

Sylvia had been suffering from Leukemia  for some time. Her funeral will be held at the Bathurst Crematorium on Wednesday, June 27 at 9.30 am and her daughter Celia has requested that in lieu of flowers donations be sent to the Leukaemia Foundation.
