New Zealand Bungalow Group Open Meeting
Drew Parsons speaking at the New Zealand Bungalow Group Open Meetin

The first open meeting of New Zealand’s India Bungalow group took place on Saturday 1 October at the Lifeway College Cafe in Snell’s Beach. Twenty two people gathered from as far away as Hamilton and Tauranga in the south and Whangarei in the north.

Eleanor Neil provided an introduction to family history resources for British India in the morning. A shared lunch gave opportunities for lively discussion and a chance to purchase FIBIS publications. In the afternoon Drew Parsons spoke about his father and grandfather and their lives, which included army service in India and Burma during WW1&2. We were then shown a selection of spectacular photos which Drew had taken during his travels in Ladakh, India and Bangladesh. The day concluded with an inspection of the David Yaxley Memorial Library where there was a display of books related to India.

It is hoped that there will be another meeting next year. Contact June at [email protected]
