1.00 – 2.00 : AGM

2.00 – 3.00 : The Hidden Story of the East India Company: a personal journey to discover the story of the Corporation that changed the world.
Blue Badge Guide, Leila Redpath, shares the hidden story of the East India Company through her own family connections in India- from her ggrandfather working on the Bombay and Central Indian Railways, to her own father spending the first 7 years of his life until Partition in India. What she discovered was a huge chunk of our nation’s history, central to our own understanding of the world we live in today. Leila proceeded to research and produce a series of virtual and physical tours revealing this fascinating story. For more information, visit: www.britainsbestguides.org/guides/leila-redpath

3.00-3.30: Tea break

3.30-4.30 Frontier Ablaze: How the British Army operated on India’s N.W. Frontier in the 1930s
Mike Tickner, our presenter today, is a regular army officer with a keen interest in the Indian Army and regularly speaks to military and civilian groups and clubs, writes articles and has led battlefield studies. Service on the NW Frontier was characterised by searing heat, freezing winds, boredom, fatigue and sudden, violent death. Between 1936-7, 60,000 Indian and British troops deployed to Waziristan to fight the Fakir of Ipi in the last major Frontier campaign before independence. Join the Column as it advances through the mountains and is attacked by Wazir and Mahsud tribesmen. Will the Column reach their camp tonight?
