DESCRIPTION:If you are trying to trace details of the births/baptisms\, marriages and/or burials of Europeans who were born\, married or died in South Asia (= including Burma\, but excluding Sri Lanka) before independence in 1947/48\, then this session should be of interest. Previous knowledge of the topic is neither expected nor required. The session includes a brief overview of the historical background together with practical advice in how to access the genealogical data held in the collection. Participants do not have to be registered Readers. \nThese sessions are run by and take place at the British Library. DESCRIPTION:This event is for members only via Zoom. To obtain the joining details please log in to the members’ area and go to the Monthly Zoom Meetings section. \nDescription\nRob will introduce you to Wikitree (www.wikitree.com) – a free and collaborative database for family historians. It is 100% free and non-commercial; it works in your web browser – no fussy apps! \nThe key concept is that there is only one profile page for any person on Earth – users collaborate to cite sources to “facts”. It connects easily to record searching such as Find My Past\, and to DNA information.\nWe will walk through a typical profile (Rob’s paternal grandmother) and show how the various tools can be used. Then we will look at some online pages and take questions.
