AGM and Autumn Lecture 2008

Saturday, 15th November 2008 at 1.00 for 1.30 p.m. at The Friends House , 173 Euston Road, London NW1 2BJ in Rooms 7+8+9 (near Euston Station)

FIBIS Meetings are free-of-charge (apart from a small nominal charge for tea and biscuits) and all interested are welcome to attend provided that they notify FIBIS as indicated below.

There will be two talks:

1. 'The lure of Indigo - and how the Hills family of East Bengal won three VCs.'

By Miles Macnair. Miles' ancestor was one of the largest indigo planters in East Bengal (at Neechindapur, now in Bangladesh) with 11 factories and employing up to 60,000 ryots! Miles is a FIBIS Member

2. "The Batta Mutiny of 1766: How Alistair MacGowan's ancestor, John McGowan was given his first Commission in the Bengal Army
